Holmgate Primary School and Nursery

Welcome to The Haven

The adults working in The Haven are:

Class Teacher: Mr Butcher

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Bates and Miss Morris

READING

Reading is a key part of our curriculum and children will be given a colour-banded school reading book to bring home.

Please share this book with your child at least three times each week.  Please ask them to identify things in the book they may recognise, such as shapes, colours, objects or animals.  Encourage them to identify words and phrases they may know or recognise within the book.  Repetition of these activities will help your child improve their skills in this area.

PE

PE days will vary from week to week, depending on the activities we are undertaking and the weather needed to do so.  Some children will also join their year group for PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Children should bring their PE kit into school to keep on their pegs.  Our PE kit consists of a white T-shirt and black shorts, joggers or leggings.  The kit should remain in school throughout the week.

SEESAW

We will be using Seesaw again this year to showcase the children's work, as well as a link between school and home.  This will allow teachers and families to communicate easily with one another.  Families can also comment of the work that their children have completed.

Please let school know if you are struggling to connect to Seesaw so we can help you with this.

STAR LEARNER

Every Friday, a member of The Haven will receive a Star Learner certificate from Mr Butcher, before lunchtime.  This will e in recognition of their excellent work and conduct throughout the week.  You will be notified via Seesaw if your child has been awarded the certificate during the current week and photos of them with their certificate will be posted on a Friday lunchtime.  Please ask them about their excellent achievement during the week at the end of school.

CLOTHING

Due to the nature of our curriculum, children working in The Haven will often complete tasks outside of the classroom, such as using the sensory circuit or within the Forest school area of the school grounds.  This will mean the children will be outside in a variety off different weather types.  If your child has any old clothes that they can get wet or dirty, please send them in to school and they will be able to wear them when we undertake these activities.
